On September 22, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with Foreign Minister of the Portuguese Republic Augusto Santos Silva at the latter’s request on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in New York.

The ministers exchanged opinions on current and future Russian-Portuguese cooperation, and discussed major international and regional problems. The two sides reiterated their interest in further regular political dialogue and in stronger cooperation in the international arena.

Former UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres, who is a candidate for the post of UN Secretary-General, also took part in the meeting.
